Here in Hawaii we are all somehow tied to Japan. You can see it in our community, in our child's faces, in our culture and customs. We at RED KOI collection and our many artists are committed to helping our Island Neighbors. Everything that you see with a red silk ribbon 75% of the proceeds will go directly toward helping the relief efforts.

We have partnered with The Rotary Club of Kapaa as they have a sister city that they partner with in Japan. Our goal is to raise $5000 and send it directly to grass roots organizations that can do the most good. We have been assured that 100% of what we send will get there.

If you are interested in helping or willing to challenge your company in doing the same let me know. We are all one.

We just received over 40 new Kimono bags by Theresa. Each one uniquely different from the next in vibrant silks and beautiful patterns.

The Dancing Trees of Makaweli

Here is a new original oil by Malia Peltier. 8" x 16" gallery wrapped on canvas. I can almost here the ukulele playing on Sunday morning.

Hand Painted Silks from Takuyo

We are excited by our newest relationship with accomplished silk artist Takuyo. She hand paints on silk original floral and abstract patterns in vibrant colors. Takuyo studied traditional Japanese silk painting and is now blending her knowledge and talents to create these one of a kind creations available exclusively at Red Koi collection.

Martin Wessler New Originals

Marty Just dropped off four originals for us. Every cottage that I see from him is better than the next. We have a storm coming through today so the painting of Sunny Poipu is a welcome sight. Thanks Marty.

Koa Ikebana

We just received 6 Koa Ikebana and 14 new Koa boxes from Hawaii's premier wood crafter Roy Tsumoto. His workmanship and Koa specimens are the best available.  These pieces will not last long.

Heavenly Koa!

Oh to imagine sitting on my Lanai, feeling the cool trade winds on my cheek, reading a favorite book and being lulled to sleep in my family rocking chair. I remember being 6 years old and staying with my grandparents in East Sullivan, Maine. They had a rocking chair next to the fireplace with a fire engine red seat cushion. In that chair I was royalty, King of any made up country I could imagine. This is the same feeling I get when I sit on this handmade solid Koa rocking chair pictured here. Feelings of times gone by and dreams of new adventures. Did I mention we can ship anywhere in the world? Enjoy!

Hawaiian Fish Hooks

We keep growing and here is another Hawaii artist born right here in Koloa, Dewey Medeiros. The hooks are beautifully done with a lot of thought and time put into them. They are a combination of exotic wood (koa) and mammoth ivory and start at $229. Other styles are available on request.

New artist Jim Ingham

We are proud to announce a new artist, Jim Ingham of Kauai. Not only are his paintings just wonderful he is also one of Kauai's finest, protecting us as a Lifeguard. This original oil is titled, "Hanalei Bay Afternoon" and is 11"x16". For more info please call 808-742-2778.

WE ARE CHANGING OUR NAME!

What's in a name?  We are changing our name from Red Bamboo Collection to Red Koi Collection. Japanese meanings include perseverance and strength.  In China, it is believed that if the koi succeeded in climbing to "Dragon Gate" on the Yellow River, the koi will be transformed into dragons. Due to this Chinese legend, koi are considered a symbol of advancement and aspiration.

I'll post up a new picture of the sign soon.

Garden Ponds by Ken Bernard

I have to say that a Garden Pond created by Ken may be the best investments I've made for the gallery.  I showed Ken my blog and he went about looking for and dreaming about the best bowl for our space.  Our bowl has the most beautiful vertical lines and patina.  It came from a factory in China that has been making bowls for over 800 years.  A lot of bowls that you might find in a museum exhibit may include this companies bowls.  Did Ken pick the best bowl for us?  Yes he did!

Just so you know, our water garden is maintenance free, just add water.  It has an underwater world of plants, snails and fish.  In fact it is a natural mosquito trap, any mosquito's that think they can lay eggs around here are going to be very disappointed once my 5 little fish get a hold of them.

You may be able to read my enthusiasm in this blog, and it would be true because I just got done putting both hands in my fountain, closing my eyes, breathing deeply and "feeling" the energy of aliveness growing in my pond.  If I can't get back in the ocean all the time at least I can "dive" into the waters of my garden pond.
Now we need to get more of these ponds at some of the other wonderful stores and restaurants at Kukui`ula Shopping Village.

Finished!

Now two weeks have passed and in those two weeks, we moved our
warehouse on Thursday, March 25th, The Country Store completely out AND cleaned on
Friday, the 26th. That week we finished cases, layout and merchandise
and opened the following Friday - Good Friday, April 2nd. We thought
it would be a better time to open than April Fools day. So here are
some pics of the almost finished Red Bamboo Collection in under 45 days.
